The hens slow down their production in the winter. We
distribute what we have equally among the members who request eggs.
Our priorities
for the winter shares are
1. what we grow
2. what other local farmers grow
3. given 1 & 2, maintaining a healthy and interesting
diversity by sourcing organic produce from out of the area.
We deal exclusively with Organically
Grown Distributors here in Eugene. The day before you get your share, we pick up from the distributor so it is as fresh as possible.
As to what specifically you will find in a share, it
could be any of the following:
locally
in season - brassicas, mushrooms (we grow oyster and shiitake mushrooms and wildcraft chanterelles),
onions, potatoes, garlic, winter squash, sunchokes, celeriac, root crops, tubers, celery, fennel, chard, Asian greens, apples,
pears, kiwi, burdock and many more that don't come to mind right now, frozen blueberries that we put up
local
and grown in the green house - spinach, arugula, some varieties of lettuce, all sorts of Asian greens, some
herbs occasional produce that can not be grown here we get from
the local organic distributor - examples are fair trade bananas from Mexico, citrus from Texas and California,
avocados from California
WE DO NOT DO STUPID THINGS LIKE OUT OF SEASON BERRIES,
TOMATOES, SUCH AS THAT.
If the local supply of a vegetable becomes exhausted,
we will go through the organic distributor to be assured everything in the shares is organically grown and as geographically
close as possible.
